New eggs & tadpoles for our moss frogs

Almost two weeks ago, our moss frogs welcomed another exciting new addition. The females laid fresh eggs on a branch in the terrarium – and the hatching began a few days ago.
The tiny tadpoles are still inconspicuous, but they represent a true milestone for us. It's always a fascinating experience to see new life emerge from the eggs.
Near-natural conditions
To ensure that the little tadpoles grow up healthy, we pay particular attention to the water quality.
- Sea almond leaves
- Alder cones
- Burbot tea
This mixture not only provides humic substances, but also protects the sensitive larvae and gives the water a natural, slightly antibacterial effect.
Development steps
Tadpoles are little survival artists. For the first few days, they feed on the yolk sac, later they begin to consume algae and fine plant debris. After a few weeks, their first hind legs develop – a special moment during which you can witness the metamorphosis up close.
During this phase, we observe them daily and document their progress. Each animal develops at its own pace, which makes observing them all the more exciting.
Outlook – From Tadpole to Frog
Over the next few weeks, we'll be sharing regular updates—from their first swimming attempts to the little frogs with their signature moss-like camouflage pattern.
This process shows again and again how fascinating and diverse nature is.
