From tadpole to frog – the metamorphosis

The metamorphosis of our moss frogs is always a fascinating spectacle. From the small tadpoles, which initially appear inconspicuous, young frogs gradually develop with their typical moss-like camouflage pattern.

The first changes

After a few weeks, the first signs appear: The tadpoles develop hind legs. Shortly thereafter, the front legs follow, and their body shape slowly changes. The tail, which was initially so important for locomotion, gradually shrinks.

Food & care in this phase

During this time, we adjust their diet: the young animals gradually switch from algae and fine plant remains to small live foods. Water quality also remains crucial – humic substances from tropical almond leaves and alder cones protect these sensitive animals.

A special moment

The first leap onto dry land is always a highlight. A tiny tadpole transforms into a full-grown frog—a step that demonstrates how incredibly diverse nature is. We're always thrilled to be able to witness this moment.
